Details of regeneration-related awards

The Homes and Communities Awards celebrate projects that have combined innovation and dedication to improve communities, making them more sustainable. In 2010 the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Regeneration & Renewal magazine have joined forces to run the Homes and Communities Awards.

In 2009 eight West Midlands projects were shortlisted, with two eventual winners.

The British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) offers the Good Practice in Regeneration and the Community Inspired Regeneration awards, and also administers the Waterways Renaissance Awards. Fort Dunlop is a previous winner of the Good Practice in Regeneration Award, as well as being a RegenWM Prizes 2008 winner.

The Association of Town Centre Management Awards reflect various aspects of what makes a town centre vital and viable; the Academy of Urbanism runs an Awards scheme (with Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter the winner of 2009's Great Neighbourhood Award); the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) offers a number of planning-related Awards.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards are an annual celebration of built and natural environment projects that demonstrate excellence in the categories of Regeneration, Building Conservation, Community Benefit and Sustainability.

Run by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE), The Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award shortlist for 2009 featured two West Midlands projects, with the Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College in Birmingham the eventual winner.

The National Market Town Awards begin with regional heats whose winners go forward to a national awards ceremony. One of our Prizes 2007 winners, Stourport Forward, won the Partnership and Strategic Working Category at the 2008 regional awards.

The West Midlands Centre for Constructing Excellence holds a Constructing Excellence awards process for construction related companies, leading to the National Constructing Excellence Awards.

The Association for Public Service Excellence offers award categories such as Best Housing and Regeneration Initiative, Best Neighbourhood and Community Initiative, and Best Healthy Living Initiative.

If you are a local authority, the Beacon Scheme recognises good practice in a varying range of disciplines. It is highly competitive, and the winners are deemed to demonstrate a higher level of excellence and innovation than other contenders. Beacon Scheme winners participate in a structured programme of sharing information and expertise with others. For example, Stafford Borough Council recently achieved Beacon status for raising economic prosperity through partnership.
